About
King Sis is a Los Angeles-based R&B singer-songwriter who makes music about love and a return to the natural world in a modern life filled with virtual realities. Primarily influenced by the golden age of '90s hip-hop, Sis incorporates a spirit of social consciousness and a royal sense of self-awareness (hence the moniker "King" Sis) in her songs. She toured the world as a background vocalist, working with artists like Kelela, just before establishing her solo artistry. Sis has always found confidence and refuge in poetry and songwriting. Originally from the DMV, she began singing at age 7 in her grandfather's church in Alexandria, VA. Born to a musical family, she was taught classical piano at age 8 by her cousin DT Lamont, and she developed an interest in the recording arts after doing voiceover work for multiple BET commercials at age 9. She first sang on studio recordings in her high school a capella group and continued her early career with commissioned projects, such as theme music for local radio shows, comedians, and special community events. While studying art in college, she co-founded two gospel groups, "REIGN" and "His City," and performed extensively around the DMV area before she moved to LA.
