About
Austin-based rapper Xavy Rusan floats on “Blackberry,” a sticky summer psychedelic single from his upcoming album “Tribal.” Like blackberries harvested in August, the bass line is extraordinarily juicy and plump. Xavy sounds supremely relaxed, as though he’s lounging poolside with his girl feeding him berries one by one. His effortless delivery belies his dense wordplay. He puts his own twist on a line and sentiment that has flowed through Black art for the better part of a century: “The blacker the berry, more drippy your juice.”
