About
Sam Rankin is an indie songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Yorkshire, UK. Born in Belgium to a Finnish mother and an English father, his tactile, chamber-cinematic style is inspired by his love of travel and continental aesthetics. His musical career began as a teenager while busking on the streets of Manchester, where he was discovered by a major international music retailer and given the opportunity to work as a video presenter, demonstrating acoustic guitars for a large online audience. His debut album of solo fingerstyle guitar pieces Origin Story came soon afterwards. His TV breakthrough came when he wrote music for 'Gino's Win Your Wishlist', a UK prime time game show first aired in 2018; since then his music has regularly featured on television in the UK (BBC, Channel 4 etc.) and around the world, and he has also written scores for a number of award-winning short films. He is a prolific producer, working with a number of artists in America and England, and he also releases indie folk songs under his own name, with his latest album The Richest Man in the World being released in 2023.
