About
The Swedish mezzo soprano Erika Sax quickly made a name for herself after her grand debut as the main lead in Rossini´s master piece Cenerentola at the Wermlands Opera in Karlstad, Sweden. With her warm beautiful timbre and strong stage presence she has since then been a regular guest at all the major Swedish opera stages such as The Royal Swedish Opera, The Gothenburg Opera, The Swedish Folkopera and Norrlandsoperan. As a versatile classical artist she has been collaborating with conductors such as Alan Gilbert, Per Giorgio Morandi and Patrik Ringborg among others. With more than thirty roles on her resume she has moved from being a lyric mezzo soprano to singing more dramatic repertoire from composers such as Wagner and Strauss. Highlights on the concert stage include performing with the Gothenburg Opera´s Orchestra, Drottningholm Court Baroque Ensemble, The Swedish Chamber Orchestra and more. With a natural talent for acting she has been acclaimed for her strong portraits of female operatic characters and has successfully worked with directors such as Christof Loy, Peter Konwitschy and Graham Vick. With the curiousness of searching for a more intimate musical expression she is now collaborating with the pianist Michael Engström on performing lieder in recitals. Erika has received scholarships from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, The Kerstin Meyer Award as well as the prestigious Anders Wall scholarship.
