Channeling this rich tradition on his debut, ""Mosaics"" is a suite of floating Middle Eastern melodic structures that incorporate the delicate cadence of strings and keys that allow for almost infinite improvisations and interpretations within that framework. John Murchison, the artist behind the music, has spent years studying the culture, including learning to speak Arabic, to be able to create this genre of music in the most authentic manner. He mixes and matches these traditions not with the awkward, respectful hesitancy of an outsider, but with the casual intimacy of an initiate.
