How to Get More Views On TikTok in 2022

TikTok is a tough nut to crack in 2022. The video sharing app is more popular than ever, meaning competition grows pretty much every day. So, how do you get more views on TikTok? Check out our 8 top tips.

Why are views on TikTok important?

More TikTok views means more exposure. Compared to YouTube, Instagram, or even Twitter, it’s a quick-fire platform. The more views you get, the more likely your video will be seen by people who didn’t initially search for it – and the more likely you’ll be able to monetize your TikTok channel.

Today, we’ll unpack what counts as a view on TikTok, and why your video might not be getting the views it deserves. Then, we’ll cover the below tips and tricks:

  1. Finding your audience
  2. Keeping content under 30 seconds
  3. Creating content every day
  4. Using hashtags
  5. Keeping on top of trends
  6. Using trending sounds
  7. Creating Stitch and Duet videos
  8. Using TikTok Analytics

What counts as a view on TikTok?

It sounds simple, but it’s worth explaining. Views on TikTok differ from other platforms. For example, you have to watch a certain portion of a YouTube video before it officially counts as a view. That’s not the case with TikTok. As soon as the video starts to play, it’s considered a view.

Does watching my own TikTok count as a view?

Nice try, but no. If you want to get more views on TikTok, you have to get other people to do the watching – views from your own account don’t do anything.

Does rewatching a TikTok count as a view?

If a video loops after someone watches it for the first time, it counts as a view on TikTok. The same goes for people returning to your content: if they watch it before breakfast, lunch and dinner, that’s 3 views.

Why is my TikTok not getting any views?

The reason behind this is often down to one factor: the content you’re posting. Of course, that opens up a whole other can of worms. Is your video engaging enough or too long? Did you try out a trend but didn’t add a unique touch? Did you use the wrong hashtags, or none at all?

New accounts can have a tough time getting TikTok views, as the platform isn’t used to what they post. Similarly, accounts that dabble in sensitive content – think of prop weapons, fake blood, etc – might struggle to gain views. Sometimes, you might have just posted at the wrong time of the day. Much of this is decided by the TikTok algorithm, which we’ll discuss in a minute.

If you want to get more views on TikTok, you have to explore every possibility. It sounds like a massive challenge, but it’s not as hard as it seems. If you make some changes and have the algorithm on your side, you can start racking up those views.

How do you get views on TikTok in 2022?

Like many other social media platforms, the flow on TikTok is controlled by a recommendation algorithm. The algorithm takes various factors into account to put together a perfect feed for its users. The end result means you'll have an unlimited stream of videos to scroll through, based on your interests.

The ‘For You’ page is key here. It’s the main feed on TikTok, collecting the best content from around the platform based on videos, topics and creators you’ve shown an interest in before. This is the main way to discover new content – getting your video featured on people’s For You page is the ticket to success on the app.

So, with that in mind, let’s get into it. Here are 8 tips on how to get more views on TikTok.

How to get more views on TikTok: 8 top tips

1. Find your audience

TikTok is all about authenticity and sharing what you love doing. The more you connect with your audience, the more they’ll want to follow you and view your content. However, keep in mind exactly who is on TikTok. More than 40% of people on the platform are between the ages of 18 and 24, so it’s still a largely younger demographic.

If you have a specific audience that likes your niche content, the algorithm will reward you. This is because you're catering to a viewership that's engaged with your videos, sharing them, and watching them all the way through.

If you’re having a hard time finding your niche, don’t worry. With so many different topics and ideas out there, it can be hard to narrow it down. One foolproof tip is to check out bigger TikTok creators who make similar content to you. That way, you can look at the hashtags, formats and topics they’re nailing, and work that into how you deliver your content.

Getting followers on TikTok

2. Keep it under 30 seconds

Even though TikTok videos can now run for up to 10 minutes, clips under 30 seconds tend to end up on the For You page more often. The reason being: if the video is short, it’s more likely to be rewatched a second, or even a third time.

Since people now scroll faster than ever before, content creators have, on average, 3 seconds to catch the viewer’s interest. Watch time, likes and comments are the most important metrics considered by the TikTok algorithm, so make sure you hook people in immediately and don’t give them a chance to get bored. Go fast or fall flat!

3. Create content every day

Not just every day – several times a day, if possible. TikTok even recommends posting between 1 and 4 times a day! This might seem impossible, but just think of how long it takes you to create a TikTok. If you set aside fifteen minutes, several times throughout the day, it could be doable.

Posting content daily introduces you to the TikTok algorithm and other users, while also giving you the freedom to experiment with different styles and formats. If you post regularly, you can get a feel for what works and what doesn’t.

4. Use hashtags

Hashtags play a vital role on TikTok. Without the right hashtags, content won’t be able to find the audience it deserves. Hashtags help the algorithm identify what the content is about and who might be interested in it, but it also aids users to discover your content through search.

Keep an eye out for trending hashtags related to your niche or industry and create content around them. You can also join other creators in challenges that are trending and could be relevant to you. This not only helps your content climb up the For You page, but it increases your chances of going viral, too. Speaking of, let’s move to the next point: keeping on top of trends.

Using TikTok

While the For You page is curated for individual users, trending videos do end up there. If a video is massive, it might be shown to people even if it doesn’t chime with their interests.

Trends can pop up and disappear like a flash in the pan – there’s often no predicting when and where they’ll hit. So, follow trends, and when you see one you like, go for it. Don’t wait.

Hashtags aren't the only way to hop on the trend train. Sound effects and music have the same power as hashtags: TikTok will show your video to someone who’s watched or liked a clip with that same sound.

You can try to stay abreast of tracks that are popping off, but it’ll require a lot of manual search and note-taking. There’s a much easier way. Check out TikTok’s Creative Center to discover what’s trending in your country and find inspiration there – you can even search for other countries’ trending tracks.

7. Create Stitch and Duet videos

Doubling down on a video that's already trending is a neat way to capitalize on its success and get some extra views on TikTok. Duets let you share a split screen with another user's video, and add your own dialogue or commentary.

Stitching is similar, allowing you to edit parts of another creator's video with your own recording to create a new video. By using these features, you can basically piggyback on some tried-and-tested content to ensure your version is seen by the original creator’s fans.

8. Use TikTok Analytics

If you manage to get at least 100 followers, you can use TikTok Analytics. This tool helps you remove guesswork and gives you a real breakdown of who your audience is, what they love, and what doesn’t work for them. Using these metrics can help you understand what kind of content you should be making in the future.
