Today, we’re introducing a public preview of the Epidemic Sound Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server. This new gateway is built for developers and partners to pioneer the next generation of context-aware creative applications.

The Epidemic Sound MCP Server provides AI agents with a suite of tools for interacting with the Epidemic Sound API. It can be integrated with various AI tools, from code editors like Cursor to general assistants such as Claude Desktop.

It is currently in beta, and we expect to be squashing bugs and rolling out functionality and tools based on feedback from the developer community.

What is the Epidemic Sound MCP Server?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for communicating context between AI models and content libraries. Our MCP Server is Epidemic Sound’s implementation of this standard, designed to make music discovery easier inside creative tools.

Instead of manually searching through catalogs, developers can now send prompts or contextual metadata (like “mood: calm” or “scene: dark forest at dawn”) and receive curated track suggestions from our catalog in response.

From context to soundtrack: The audio layer for your app

The MCP Server is more than a music library API. It’s the intelligent audio layer for any creative platform, designed to close the gap between what a user does in your application and the perfect sound for that moment.

By leveraging the specific context of your platform, you can guide users to the right audio faster and more intuitively.

Here’s how this works in practice.

For a video editing app

Your user imports video clips tagged “summer vacation” and “beach drone shot.” Instead of showing a blank search box, your application uses this context.

It can automatically query the MCP for tracks matching moods like “calm,” “adventurous,” or “relaxing,” instantly presenting the user with a highly relevant starting point. This turns a manual search into a guided discovery, allowing the user to simply stream previews against their edit and download the perfect fit.

For a gaming or interactive experience

A player’s character enters a new level defined by the context “dark, mysterious, cave.” Your game engine can use these keywords to query the MCP in real time for a selection of tense, atmospheric tracks.

When the player solves a puzzle and the context shifts to “triumphant discovery,” a new query provides uplifting music. The MCP acts as the dynamic audio source, allowing you to seamlessly match the soundtrack to the on-screen action.

By integrating the MCP Server, you’re not just adding a search bar — you’re building a smarter, context-aware experience. You understand your users’ creative intent, while we provide the tools to instantly translate that intent into the perfect soundtrack.

How to get started

The Epidemic Sound MCP Server acts as a bridge, connecting your AI-powered creative tools directly to our vast, world-class music catalog. It allows your applications to intelligently find the perfect soundtrack for any context, from a video to a game, by describing what you need in a prompt.

Getting started is straightforward and uses an OAuth flow with your existing Epidemic Sound account. If you don’t have an account yet, sign up here.

Once authenticated, start making requests to find music directly from your prompts.

Configure the server in your preferred AI-assisted environment, such as Cursor, Claude, or ChatGPT.
