On his 3-track project “Detention,” producer Dylan Sitts poses as a hip hop sorcerer, weaving mighty, maximalist orchestral flourishes and nefarious synth lines to evoke both a sense of majesty and the feeling that dark forces are at work. On the title track, he gives a long glide so that they sit behind a propulsive double-time hi-hat pulse. On “Goodie Bags,” a cascade of violins playing triplet 16ths. Across the release, you can feel a vortex opening as Sitts’ typhoons whirl and pick up speed.
